Here are some of the things the Swarm community achieved in previous phases which have laid solid foundations for our open source film project:
- Started co-creating film media
- Writing two scripts (one emergent, another ‘on rails’)
- Shaped community direction
- Contributed video/posters/images/music
- Made a trailer
Based on our project experiences and the things we need to continue advancing our activity, here’s some more detail about the changes in Phase 3 (launching in a few weeks):
- New Archangels:
These are new community roles. Archangels will help us manage the larger amount of tasks and activity in the network. We are recruiting these roles from our membership. - Finish script writing:
Both of the scripts will be finalized through forum, and wiki contributions (these contributions are moderated, filtered allowing everyone to contribute but keeping the direction focused). - More media creation:
Both script projects will have a teaser trailer and other media created for them. - Regular updating:
With help from Archangels, we will have more regular production blog postings, and a weekly/fortnightly newsletter to keep members informed. - More participation:
Increased opportunities for voting on creative direction and rating items, making simple contributions of your media (images, sounds, video), and remixing opportunities. - Simpler website integration:
Easier ways to contribute and subscribe to your most interesting topics/areas through a revamped website for 2008.
Overall, these changes should help reduce the complexity of being involved for ‘casual users’, while providing more streamlined ways for deeper participation from ‘active contributors’ - essential as we increase membership into the thousands. (Members who want to make additional suggestions please do so in the forums).
You can pre-register before the Phase 3 launch now, and be one of the first to move over to the new site.

Matt,
I’m Enguerran, director of the open and collaborative film Varsovie-Express and founder of the french production company Ralamax Prod.
I think that the multiplicity of this kind of projects is a great thing to build a new economy and a new market for the cinema.
How can we work together ? we could place something on our websites if you want.
tell me when you come to Paris. keep in touch
